When practicing Yin yoga one holds a series of more passive poses for 3-5 minutes or longer. Holding the poses longer allows you to relax the muscles you don’t need in that particular pose and work into the deeper connective tissue and fascia. This helps regulate flow of energy in the body. Yin is unique in that you do relax and may even reach a meditative state in the posture in time. Some benefits of Yin Yoga are:

Thank you for joining me as I embark on this journey of sharing yoga through teaching. Yoga is a journey, a wonderful, fearful, tearful, but more often exciting and encouraging life journey! Yoga takes you into the now, the present moment which is where life and joy is found. I’ve heard it said that depression lives in the past and that anxiety lives in the future–but joy lives in the present!
I decided to call my site Cherokee yoga in honor of my Dad who had a great Cherokee heritage of which he was proud. I share that pride and his spirit lives on within my soul……
